Identifying weaknesses for each AFC West team for 2022 NFL season

Los Angeles Chargers – Tight end

The Chargers might have the best roster in the AFC West, but their tight end position isn’t scaring anyone.  It’s probably the worst unit in the division, highlighted by Gerald Everett, a sixth-year man who has spent time with the Seahawks and Rams, never hitting 500 receiving yards in a season.

Other names at tight end for the Chargers include young players like Tre’ McKitty and Donald Parham Jr.

Unless one of their younger guys takes a step forward, the Chargers and Justin Herbert won’t be relying on that position to produce consistently.

He’s got a great duo of receivers in Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, and a nice running back in Austin Ekeler.

The Chargers won’t have any issues moving the ball down the field, but I would not personally expect their tight ends to be a big part of that for 2022.

They could still re-sign Jared Cook, who caught 48 passes for 564 receiving yards for them in 2021, which is very solid production, especially for someone his age.

If Gerald Everett wasn’t able to produce with Jared Goff before he stunk and Russell Wilson, I don’t see a way he does much with Justin Herbert.
