Steelers overrated player No. 1: Chase Claypool, WR

Chase Claypool deserves credit for having insane confidence — which is something most athletes have even if many choose not to express it. Claypool, however, had no issues saying how he views himself.

While appearing on the I Am Athlete podcase, Claypool said he’s not just a top-five wideout in the NFL, but went as far as to say he’s at least one of the best three.

"“I am not like the rest of the guys in the NFL,” he said. “I know I’m a top-five receiver. I know I’m a top-three receiver.”"

Even those who cover the team had to admit this was a bit of a stretch. Still Curtain site expert Tommy Jaggi went to Twitter shortly after Claypool’s comments and praised his confidence while admitting he wasn’t exactly accurate.

The problem with Claypool is that he doesn’t seem to have the most self-awareness. This wasn’t the first time he made an eyebrow-raising comment. Following the team’s loss to the Cleveland Browns in the playoffs, he infamously said it didn’t matter because the Browns would get “clapped” by the Kansas City Chiefs.

He’s had other issues come up including being involved in a bar fight and making comments to the media that he probably shouldn’t — like the aforementioned quote about Cleveland. For whatever reason, it seems Pittsburgh wideouts just have to get publicity for anything other than their play.

For Claypool, that play was great during his rookie season, scoring nine touchdowns. However, he had just two in his second year in the league and wasn’t nearly as consistent as expected.

Going forward, more will be put on his shoulders with Tik Tok star and part-time wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster in Kansas City, and that might not be ideal for Pittsburgh.
