No.1 Worst Chicago Bears Trade: Bears trade No.11 overall pick and in 1997 NFL Draft to Seahawks for QB Rick Mirer and fourth-round pick.

Mirered in Misery. If the Chicago Tribune needed a headline to define the Rick Mirer era in Chicago, that would be it.

Abysmal and outright ranks above all QB trades for the Bears as the worst. The deal was made even worse as Seattle used the pick on cornerback Shawn Springs, who wound up playing seven years in Seattle and being rather productive.

The Chicago Bears only got three starts and seven games out of Mirer.

It’s hard to imagine Mirer ever being this bad after posting a solid career at Notre Dame and having a promising rookie season with the Seahawks following being drafted second overall behind Drew Bledsoe in 1993.

Zero touchdowns and six picks during Mirer’s tenure in Chicago. Just abysmal.

Despite bouncing around the league following his stay in the Windy City, including a trip to the Super Bowl with the Raiders in 2002, Mirer will never shake the fact that he was traded to Chicago for a top 15 pick after four rough years in Seattle.

That move still haunts Mark Hatley, as he was the one who pulled the trigger on a deal Bears fans wished he never did.

Now that that’s out of the way, here’s hoping that Ryan Pace did something good before departing by trading up for Justin Fields. It would be a shame if his name ever popped up on a list like this. Hopefully, it doesn’t and instead goes down as one of the better trades in franchise history.
