Chicago Bears camp battle to watch: Quarterbacks

Unlike last year, there will be no controversy over who starts at quarterback in 2022. Justin Fields is the certified starter and there will be no competition.

The competition will be for Fields’ backup. The Bears cut the other quarterback on the roster, Nick Foles. Poles then went out and signed Trevor Siemian and Nathan Peterman.

Both players likely make the roster but the one who wins the main backup role will see more playing time. He’ll come in if Fields is injured. For the loser of the battle, things have to become very bad for him to see snaps.

Siemian looks to be the favorite going in. While he didn’t have much success, he does have experience starting games, having started 29 of his 33 career games.

Peterman, on the other hand, only has 10 total career games, starting two of them.

Neither player has had success in the league yet but that isn’t important. Hopefully, FIelds stays healthy throughout the season.

The backup just needs to come in for a few snaps, maybe start a game or so, and keep the offense from taking too much of a dip.
