3 reasons Tom Brady and the Buccaneers will disappoint in 2022
Reason no. 1 the Buccaneers will disappoint: No more Rob Gronkowski
Although some have speculated that Rob Gronkowski could come out of retirement if Tom Brady called him, he recently stated that wouldn’t be the case.
In addition to Chris Godwin not being available at the start of this season — maybe not at all — the Buccaneers are going to have to move forward with a new group of tight ends.
Not only is Godwin out, not only is Arians stepping down, but you also have Gronkowski retired and out of the offensive equation.
That leaves the Buccaneers with guys like Cameron Brate and rookie Cade Otton.
They’re left with those guys because former first-round pick OJ Howard bolted in free agency for the Buffalo Bills this offseason as well.
Although Gronkowski hasn’t been playing a Travis Kelce-level of role in the Buccaneers’ offense over the last couple of seasons in terms of the volume of targets he receives, he’s been a significant factor and a real game-changer.
Gronk is arguably the best to ever do it at the tight end position, and that goes so far beyond just his ability to make plays in the passing game.
He’s basically an extension of the offensive line in the running game as well.
Having Gronkowski was more than just a safety blanket for Tom Brady. He is a dynamic presence who can be relied upon in key situations all throughout the season.
Not having him — and a host of other prominent players who are out or gone this year — will be massive for the Buccaneers’ chances at winning another title.
