Jimmy Garoppolo option no. 4: Atlanta Falcons

44. Scouting Report. . Atlanta Falcons. player. Pick Analysis. . 4

The Atlanta Falcons should trade for Jimmy Garoppolo.

The team’s top two options at the present moment are:

Marcus Mariota, a reclamation project who has familiarity with Arthur Smith from their time together in Tennessee.

Also, Desmond Ridder, a third-round pick out of Cincinnati who needs development and seasoning before he’ll be ready for regular season NFL action.

Part of Mariota’s familiarity with Arthur Smith includes being benched back in 2019 when he was still supposed to be the QB of the future in Tennessee.

Because Mariota has been a backup for multiple seasons now and because Ridder is not ready, the Falcons must do what is best for their skill position players and trade for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo has proven that he can operate an offense at least somewhat similar to the offense he’d run under Arthur Smith, and not only can he operate the offense, but he can also distribute the ball to the playmakers.

We have seen players like George Kittle and Deebo Samuel really excel with Jimmy Garoppolo getting them the ball.

The Falcons have young Kyle Pitts and Drake London as two key pieces of their future offensively, and they can’t afford to stunt their growth just to tank in 2022 for a QB in 2023.

The Falcons need to make a call to get Garoppolo in the fold, especially if the 49ers are willing to eat some of his salary.
