Roquan Smith trade destination no. 2: Houston Texans

. 10. Pick Analysis. . Houston Texans. 2. player. Scouting Report

I do not think a potential Roquan Smith trade is reserved only for “contenders” in the NFL today.

The Houston Texans have a plethora of extra draft picks on hand after the Deshaun Watson blockbuster trade, and not that they should just be blowing them on trades, but this seems like a wise investment.

Roquan Smith is a proven star at the linebacker position who is just 25 years old. The Texans are sort of rebuilding but they’re obviously also hoping to be on the upswing at this point.

They wouldn’t likely have to part with a first-round pick to get Smith off the Bears’ hands, and would the price of a second-round pick plus a new contract be worth it for a team like this?

Absolutely.

If Smith were 27 or 28 years old, maybe the Texans and their current timeline would be a bad fit. As it is, he’s 25 and could be a significant building block for them.

Texans GM Nick Caserio would be an absolute fool not to consider a potential move like this, especially after the strong offseason the Texans just had.

Houston has the fourth-most cap space out of any team in the NFL next year, and they obviously have a need for players like this who can come in and just really upgrade the roster.

With all of those draft picks and the ability to afford a deal going forward, Houston has a great opportunity to make a deal here and get Lovie Smith a true star for that defense.
