1. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB

A former second-round pick of the New England Patriots, Jimmy Garoppolo has had a lot of success with the 49ers. He took them to the Super Bowl in 2019 and was one game away again this past season.

However, he finds himself looking for a new home since Trey Lance was taken third overall in 2021 and the coaching staff is ready to pass the baton. Throughout the offseason, San Francisco has been willing to trade Garoppolo but there have been no suitors. Because of this, general manager John Lynch has said it’s “getting pretty close” to time for considering an outright release of Garoppolo.

Should that happen, there likely wouldn’t be much time between that announcement and another saying he has his new home.

One potential suitor is the Cleveland Browns, who have been said to be considering another signal-caller during Deshaun Watson’s 11-game suspension. They’ve had no interest in Garoppolo at his current salary, but that could change if he’s on the open market.

There’s also the Seattle Seahawks who are currently hosting a quarterback battle between Drew Lock and Geno Smith — where the real losers will be the pass-catchers in Seattle.

Garoppolo might not be destined for the Hall of Fame, but he’s a capable quarterback — when healthy — and teams will always be willing to roll the dice on such players.
