NFL 2022: Three best bets for the NFC in the 2022 season
Minnesota Vikings should correct 2021 mistakes and coast to playoffs in weak NFC
- Offense should take leap under Kevin O’Connell
- All but one loss by one score in 2021
- Relatively easy strength of schedule
- Young defensive talent
- Weak NFC Conference
The Vikings went 8-9 in 2021, but a deeper dive into the numbers shows that all but one of their losses was by a single score. Looking at their 2022 roster, their biggest offseason addition was the hiring of coach Kevin O’Connell. He managed to run a very successful offense as the offensive coordinator for the Super Bowl-winning Los Angeles Rams last year and certainly has the weapons to do so again in Minnesota.
Kirk Cousins has been one of the most consistent quarterbacks of the past decade, their receiving core ranks among the top five in the league, and they have two extremely talented running backs in both the run and pass game. The biggest worry for this team comes on the defensive side, with their defense front being relatively average and their secondary which gave up the fifth-most passing yards last year but did add some young talent with their first two draft picks this year.
While there are many ways to bet on the Minnesota Vikings this year, my favorite value is on them to make the playoffs at almost even money. Looking at the NFC landscape, you can poke holes in almost any team, including their divisional rivals the Green Bay Packers.
With a relatively easy strength of schedule, I could see them making the playoffs as the five seed or even stealing the NFC North divisional title if they manage to sweep the Packers in their matchups, making their Week 1 game all the more interesting.
