NFL Week 1 Quarterback Performance #2: Jameis Winston

2. player. 15. . QB. New Orleans Saints. Jameis Winston

Returning to the starting lineup has been a journey for the New Orleans quarterback. A promising start to the 2021 campaign led fans to gain faith in the former Florida State Seminole. 14 touchdowns and three interceptions showed progress in the eight-year veteran’s development. A torn ACL in week eight sidelined Winston for the rest of the 2021 season – allowing thoughts of uncertainty concerning New Orleans’ future.

Dedication in the offseason encouraged Jameis Winston to recover quickly. Taysom Hill’s transformation to the tight end position presented Jameis an opportunity to remain the team’s starter – lifting his spirits for the upcoming season. Winston’s confidence was on full display in his 2022 debut. His 269 yards in the air led Dennis Allen’s squad to a win on the road against a hungry Falcons squad.

A 67.6 completion percentage showed the accuracy of New Orleans’ returning gunslinger. His decision-making throughout the game limited turnovers – showing Winston’s growth since entering the league.

Sunday’s performance against Atlanta proved Winston’s ability to win in tight situations. The 27-26 victory gave the Saints enough momentum to carry into their week two matchup against Tom Brady and the Bucs. If Winston continues to play efficient football, the Saints could secure two divisional wins early in the season – a big step towards making a playoff run.
