No. 1 AFC South team ahead of Week 4: The Jacksonville Jaguars

2-1. . Jacksonville Jaguars. 1. team. 52.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were the butt of jokes through most of the 2010s but it looks like they’re starting to turn the corner. They’ve caught everyone’s attention and are the talk of the town after beating the Indianapolis Colts and the Los Angeles Chargers in consecutive.

The Jags currently lead the AFC South but they’re also among the best teams in the league in most traditional and advanced statistics. Moreover, they’re still a young team and can get even better as the season progress. Jacksonville started the year near the bottom of most power rankings but you will find them in the top half ahead of Week 4.

Doug Pederson’s leadership and people skills have proven to be invaluable. Trevor Lawrence is living up to his draft billing and most of the acquisitions general manager Trent Baalke made in both free agency and the draft are having a huge impact.

One overlooked aspect of the 2022 Jaguars is that they don’t have many blue-chip players. Instead, they have a collection of very good contributors that collectively can win games. Trevor Lawrence is developing into a top 15 quarterback but he doesn’t have to be one to help the Jaguars win.

The Jags’ can easily lean on James Robinson and Travis Etienne to produce yards on the ground. Similarly, the defense has developed a propensity to create turnovers. That kind of balance will help Jacksonville keep racking up victories in 2022.
