. 3-2. . San Francisco 49ers. 8. team. 42

NFL Power Rankings No.8 San Francisco 49ers (3-2)

What are they?: A Defensive Juggernaut

On September 21st, Trey lance was placed on injured reserve, but the 49ers continued to press forward. Their decision to keep Jimmy Garoppolo served a purpose and he soon became the next man in. Assistance from reliable weapons made the transition seamless. No.12’s veteran presence led the Niners to victory against the Seahawks, Rams, and Panthers – resulting in a 3-1 start under center.

Garoppolo’s five touchdown passes are refreshing for 49ers fans who lost faith in his abilities. Turnovers are kept at a minimum and offense continues to improve.

Defensive performances will be the reason the Niners clinch a playoff berth. Their talent is overwhelming, especially for opposing quarterbacks. DeMeco Ryans’ squad allows 249.2 yards per game – ranking first in the category. Victories against the Seahawks and Rams showed how suffocating San Francisco can be. They allowed less than 12 points in four of their five showings – demonstrating resilience every week.

7. team. 31. . 4-1. . New York Giants

NFL Power Rankings No.7 New York Giants (4-1)

What are they?: On the rise

Brian Daboll’s impressive start to the season makes the Giants a team to watch this season. A 4-1 start has Giants fans feeling confident when pondering about what lies ahead. Victories over the Packers, Titans, Bears, and Panthers position the G-Men fourth in the NFC. Contributions from Saquon Barkley improve New York’s playoff odds. No.26 has accumulated 533 yards and three touchdowns – leading rushers in yards on the ground.

Improvements in morale are evident, and the defense has made the most of the hype. In 2021, the Giants finished the season ranked 21st in yards allowed per game. Their 6,032 yards allowed to opposing offenses made it hard for New York to tally wins – resulting in a disappointing season. In 2022, Don Martindale’s approach to protecting the endzone ranks the Giants’ defense 12th in yards allowed – a huge improvement for Daboll’s squad. As the season progresses, the Giants will continue improving with hopes of clinching a playoff berth in a tough NFC East division.
