Ranking the alternate NFL helmets used in 2022
By Randy Gurzi
12. New York Jets
Most of the teams that have had positive reviews for their alternate helmets went with a retro look. The New York Jets likely would have been praised had they done this. Instead, they decided to go with a black helmet to pair with the all-black uniforms.
The helmet isn’t terrible but it’s also not great. The look overall feels like there wasn’t much thought put into it.
11. Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears decided it was time to really feature the orange in their color scheme. In the past, they’ve done this with an orange alternate jersey but now they added a helmet with the same color. And naturally, they debuted it around Halloween.

It also wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either.
10. Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles broke out a black helmet this season and wore it with an all-black uniform. That’s quite the trend this season and while it typically looks good with the right colors, the dark green that Philly uses doesn’t really pop with it.

But the real issue with this one is the fact that they didn’t use the kelly green helmet and uniform. That should be punishable by law because that’s one of the best vintage looks out there.
9. Houston Texans
The Houston Texans went all red and called it “battle red.”
That’s understandable, even if not original since they already had an all-red uniform with the same name. Having said that, the helmet is nice and the “battle-red” does look better when they’re in this new helmet.
