NFL Team #4- Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This has certainly been a tumultuous season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and quarterback Tom Brady. Head coach Bruce Arians abruptly steps down from his position and puts defensive coordinator Todd Bowles in charge. Tom Brady’s personal life and his divorce are put on full display all while the team deals with injuries and losing center Ryan Jensen and edge rusher Shaquil Barrett. The Bucs amassed a mediocre record of 6-8 prior to the start of Week 16.

The situation with the Bucs is very similar to the Packers. The Packers made it to the NFC Championship twice and this was supposed to be the year they got back to it. That is not likely to happen. The Bucs won the 2020 Super Bowl and had an excellent season in 2021 but were knocked out of contention in the second round of the playoffs. Besides the seemingly endless injuries, specifically to the team’s offensive line, Rob Gronkowski retired again before the 2022 season began taking away one of Brady’s favorite and most trusted targets. That hurt the offense significantly with receiver Chris Godwin also in and out due to injury.

The Bucs may stand at first in the NFC South but with a record of 6-8, it’s not a very impressive feat. The division does not appear to be that competitive rather the four teams within the division are that bad. The defense is still formidable ranking at 8th best in the league but the offense at 18th is not the juggernaut Bruce Arians/Todd Bowles put on display for the NFL world for the last two seasons. If this is Brady’s last year it would have made more sense for him to take Giselle’s advice and take off after winning the Super Bowl two years ago.
