Predicting NFC East head coaches in 2023 — Commanders & Eagles

Washington Commanders: Ron Rivera

I toyed with the idea of the Washington Commanders replacing Ron Rivera here, ultimately deciding that he deserves another year in Washington at the very least. There has been one primary issue with the Commanders the last few years, and it doesn’t fall on Rivera.

The quarterback play is not good enough.

The fact that Rivera and his staff have been able to win as many games as they have and even make a postseason appearance with Taylor Heinicke as the team’s best option at quarterback? I suppose that’s as strong of an endorsement for Rivera as you can get. The Commanders have a quarterback problem, not a head coach problem. Put Derek Carr in burgundy in 2023 and let’s see what happens.

Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Sirianni

Nick Sirianni’s job is safe, but he’s probably the most likely head coach in 2023 to lose both of his top assistants. It’s not hard to see both Shane Steichen (offensive coordinator) and Jonathan Gannon (defensive coordinator) getting picked up by other teams for head coaching gigs in 2023.

Sirianni has certainly overcome a lot, hasn’t he? Remember when all people could talk about was how bad this guy sounded at the podium? Now look at him. He’s a candidate for coach of the year on arguably the best team in the NFL.
