The 2023 NFL Draft order is almost completely set. Only two teams remain after the Eagles beat the 49ers and the Chiefs beat the Bengals in the NFC and AFC championship games, respectively. For 30 other teams, we’re onto the NFL Draft.

The 2023 NFL Draft is currently not considered to be among the best in terms of its overall quality and depth. The top-end talent in this draft class is poor, and people are already keeping one eye on the 2024 NFL Draft class at the quarterback position with prospects like Drake Maye of North Carolina and USC star Caleb Williams.

Only 69 underclassmen declared for the 2023 NFL Draft, so obviously, the NIL deals are working to keep kids at universities a little longer, at least in this one-year vacuum. As a result of this draft class not being great, we could see a ton of movement on the NFL trade market this year, meaning picks for players. As of right now, who is picking where?

Previous quarterback trades have impacted the current first round order of the 2023 NFL Draft pretty substantially. The Denver Broncos sent their first-round pick to the Seattle Seahawks in the Russell Wilson deal. The Los Angeles Rams sent their first-round pick to the Detroit Lions in the Matthew Stafford deal. The Cleveland Browns sent their first-round pick to the Houston Texans in the Deshaun Watson deal.

You’ll also notice that there are only 31 selections instead of 32. For those who don’t already know, the reason for that is because the Miami Dolphins were punished by the NFL for tampering with Sean Payton and Tom Brady, and the league revoked their first-round pick. They had two of them to begin with, and they traded the other one to the Broncos for Bradley Chubb.

You might also be wondering why the Eagles are in the top 10 of the Draft after reaching the Super Bowl, and it’s because of a bizarre trade made between Eagles GM Howie Roseman and Saints GM Mickey Loomis during last year’s first round.

Loomis gave away his 2023 first-round pick so he could have an extra pick in the teens in 2022 to select Trevor Penning, an offensive tackle. Five selections have changed hands already in the 2023 NFL Draft’s first round, and a sixth was taken away by the league. With 1/5 of the picks already being moved, don’t be shocked if that number reaches close to 33 percent or more when all is said and done.
