So much for the expert picks; the majority chose Philadelphia. Instead, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs are the last ones standing in the desert.

The Kingdom now has their second title in four seasons (third in franchise history) with a 38-35 win over the Eagles in, arguably, the greatest Super Bowl ever, most certainly in the conversation for the best of the 21st century. Harrison Butker’s kick with seconds left finished the job.

Mahomes, a State Farm commercial promoter, earned the biggest prize of the season in State Farm Stadium with his second Super Bowl MVP. Mahomes finished the game 21-27 for 182 yards and three touchdowns, with zero picks. Travis Kelce had six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Isiah Pacheco with 76 yards and a touchdown, and 15 carries.

So much for the NFL MVP curse, the passing yards leader curse, the coin toss curse, and whatever you can throw in his direction. No. 15 is special; it’s just that simple. He’s not the GOAT (not yet Nick Wright), but again, he’s pretty damn special, and because of that, he’s got another piece of hardware to his already accomplished resume. The ankle injury didn’t seem to bother him at all.

However, let’s not overlook a factor. There were several questionable calls throughout the game that went in Kansas City’s favor. Still, that doesn’t explain the explosion that took place in the second half following the incredible performance by Rihanna.

Philadelphia’s 24-14 halftime lead was made possible in part by keeping the football away from Kansas City’s offense. Jalen Hurts was dominating in time of possession despite the fumble that led to a touchdown by KC’s Nick Bolton. Hurts finished the game 27-38 for 304 yards with three rushing touchdowns and a touchdown pass to AJ Brown. Brown finished with six yards on 96 receptions. Devonta Smith finished with 100 yards on seven catches.

Patrick Mahomes proves he is the new king of the NFL with a clutch victory in Super Bowl LVII.

Many will talk about the last series of the game with the questionable holding call at the end with Eagles cornerback James Bradberry. Two seasons in a row, a holding call at the end of the Super Bowl. Suspicious, but the Eagles’ defense was atrocious the entire contest. No pressure whatsoever. Maybe San Francisco and New York were right about the completion Philly faced all year long.

Nonetheless, it is what it is. The Eagles had a good season; in the end, it was not meant to be. The same could not be said for the Chiefs. They are the last ones standing, and they get to house the Lombardi trophy in the process.

They even did it while replacing much of their roster. Then again, they still had Patrick Mahomes. In the end, it came down to the end. It was an instant classic, but the Kingdom has reclaimed its land and now stands alone as the champions of the NFL.

Two titles in four seasons. Three in franchise history. The script is complete, and the 2022-23 NFL Season has come to a close. The Kansas City Chiefs are Super Bowl LVII Champions.
