As of right now, Ben Powers might very well be the best interior offensive lineman/left guard on the free agent market. With roster cuts yet to happen, that’s always going to be subject to change, but as of right now, this is where we’re at.

The dream scenario for the Cowboys, crazy as it may sound, might be to let go of Tyron Smith, get the cap savings, move Tyler Smith out to the left tackle spot, and insert someone like Ben Powers in the left guard position.

Coming off of a great season with the Baltimore Ravens, Powers is known for his ability to pass protect on the interior and he would certainly be a welcome presence for the Cowboys next to the young Tyler Smith. Tyron Smith only played in 17 total games over the last three seasons, so having some consistent availability on the offensive line will help Dallas with one of the key factors of building a competent line in the NFL — continuity.

Powers gave up just 12 pressures in the entire 2022 season according to Pro Football Focus. That kind of production in the pass protection department will help keep Dak Prescott comfortable in the pocket, and coming from the Ravens, we know Powers is used to run blocking the majority of the time.

Making Smith and Powers the left side of the offensive line could be the dream for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023.
