NFL free agency: 3 teams for Dre’Mont Jones if he leaves Broncos
NFL free agency is just a couple of weeks away, and some big-name players are going to be on the move. Sometimes, the top free agents are ripped from the free agency frenzy by the franchise tag, but that will apparently not be the case for Denver Broncos defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones. Broncos GM George Paton confirmed at the NFL Scouting Combine that Jones will hit the open market, although he also noted that discussions with Jones and his agent Kyle McCarthy have been “very positive”.
With no franchise tag coming, Dre’Mont Jones stands a great chance of becoming one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in this year’s NFL free agency market. It could still end up being the Denver Broncos that pay him, but he also might get the bag from someone else.
If Jones does, in fact, leave the Denver Broncos, what teams should we be on the lookout for in 2023 NFL free agency to sign him? Let’s look at the top three potential landing spots.
Top 3 landing spots for Dre’Mont Jones if he leaves the Denver Broncos
1. Miami Dolphins
When the Denver Broncos made a blockbuster move to trade away Bradley Chubb at the 2022 NFL trade deadline, Dre’Mont Jones made no secret about the fact that he was not happy with the move.
The Dolphins aren’t exactly sitting out here with a ton of salary cap space right now. They did pay Bradley Chubb a big-money deal after acquiring him from the Denver Broncos, but the Dolphins just so happen to have made another big move for a former Bronco already this offseason.
They hired Vic Fangio to be their new defensive coordinator. One of the biggest moves of the 2023 offseason, and not many people are really talking about it. They will be if the Dolphins can somehow find a way to reel in a big fish like Dre’Mont Jones.
Jones came into the league in 2019 when Fangio was hired as the Broncos’ head coach. Fangio and his staff kept on giving Jones more and more opportunities until he really started to shine by his third NFL season. By year four, he was a force as a pass rusher, even without Fangio in Denver.
He now has a chance to potentially reunite with both Fangio and Chubb in South Beach, where his contract would be income tax-free.
