2. Dallas Cowboys must let Dalton Schultz walk in NFL Free Agency

For the last handful of years, Dalton Schultz has really emerged as a steady option for the Dallas Cowboys at the tight end position. He was given the franchise tag in 2022 and once again played well last season for the Cowboys.

Dalton Schultz key numbers since 2020

  • 198 receptions
  • 2,000 yards
  • 17 touchdowns

You hate to see talented players leave in free agency but the Dallas Cowboys have just about maximized the value they’re going to get out of Dalton Schultz. He’s been effective for them but I wouldn’t say he’s been someone you simply can’t replace at the position.

Schultz is in a good position at the age of 27 this coming season to go out and make some good money in NFL free agency. He should have plenty of suitors given his production, high catch rate, and ability to play in-line. The Dallas Cowboys simply have too many other areas they are going to need to emphasize this offseason to keep him around on a contract that might end up being worth close to $10 million per season.

As good as Schultz has been the last three seasons, the Cowboys need more playmakers at wide receiver and the money they would otherwise potentially spend on Schultz should probably be going there.

Where the Cowboys are really set up well here? This year’s free agent tight end class has some intriguing names and the 2023 NFL Draft class at the position is absolutely loaded at tight end.
