3. Consistency in Coaching

The Bears’ coaching staff, including head coach Matt Eberflus, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, and defensive coordinator Alan Williams, has established a culture of consistency and development. Eberflus’ HITS principle really resonated with the players last season.

Despite losing 14 games total and their final 10, this was a team that never gave up. They played hard throughout the losses. Of their 17 games, eight of them were decided by one score. They lost seven of them. There were also a couple more that were close in the fourth quarter until the opponent pulled away late. If they continue to play hard-nosed football, and with the infusion of talent, a lot of those one-score outcomes can result in wins.

Getsy and Williams were not able to effectively run their systems in 2023. There weren’t enough talented players who could run the plays called. Getsy, who worked with Hall of Fame talent, could not call the plays he needed for Fields.

That changes this season. With so much more talent on the roster, the coordinators could run their systems the way they want.

With another year of experience under their belts, they have fine-tuned their game plans and schemes to maximize the team’s potential. The familiarity and continuity within the coaching staff will undoubtedly benefit the players, allowing them to execute effectively and make the necessary adjustments throughout the season.
