Whether you’re a fantasy football player or not, knowing which players have been among the NFL’s most targeted at the wide receiver position in the last handful of years is interesting and useful information. There are some players in today’s NFL who have simply become dominant forces at the receiver position, despite teams knowing week after week who they need to be honing in on, coverage-wise.
Some of the names among the NFL’s most targeted receivers won’t be surprising in the least, but at least one name on the list might cause raised eyebrows.
Who are the most targeted NFL wide receivers since 2020? Disclaimer: We will be ranking them in terms of targets per game, not just overall targets.
NFL’s most targeted wide receivers from 2020-22
1. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers/Las Vegas Raiders
498 targets, 47 games; 10.6 targets per game
No receiver in the NFL has been targeted more times over the last three years than Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams — period. Adams has been targeted almost 500 times and receives an average of 10.6 targets per game. He is also tied for first among all receivers with 338 receptions over that timeframe.
2. Cooper Kupp, Los Angeles Rams
413 targets, 41 games; 10.07 targets per game
Not surprisingly, there is only one receiver in the NFL with more targets than Cooper Kupp over the past three seasons, and if Kupp wouldn’t have missed time with injury last year, he undoubtedly would have been in contention for the top spot on this list with Davante Adams. Kupp has become one of the best go-to receivers in the NFL today, and one of the most consistently productive offensive playmakers for Sean McVay.
3. Stefon Diggs, Buffalo Bills
484 targets, 49 games; 9.88 targets per game
The Buffalo Bills are experiencing a little bit of turmoil with Stefon Diggs at the moment, but his gripe simply cannot be anything to do with not getting the ball enough. Since 2020, he’s tied with Davante Adams for the most receptions in the entire league at 338.
4. Keenan Allen, Los Angeles Chargers
393 targets, 40 games; 9.83 targets per game
I promised that at least one name on this list would be surprising, and I think Keenan Allen certainly qualifies. At 9.83 targets per game, Allen is one of the most frequently targeted receivers in the league right now, and understandably so. He has caught almost 70 percent of the passes thrown in his direction over that timeframe.
5. Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers
460 targets, 48 games; 9.58 targets per game
Another slightly surprising name on this list, Diontae Johnson has received a whopping 460 targets over the last three years but shockingly had 0 touchdowns on 86 receptions last season. The Pittsburgh Steelers star had almost 170 targets in the 2021 season, the final year for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh.
