Three 2023 free agents who won’t live up to their contract

Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, Baltimore Ravens

Among all the 2023 free agents, I’m not sure there was someone who got more overpaid than Odell Beckham, Jr., who somehow signed a one-year, $15 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens in a move that was clearly only done to keep Lamar Jackson happy.  I think we are still fixated on OBJ the name instead of OBJ the player.

He tore his ACL in February of 2022, so he should be back to 100%, whatever that may be, but he simply isn’t that productive of a wide receiver anymore.

During the first five years of his career, Beckham averaged a whopping 92.8 yard per game, which is an insane amount of production.  From 2019 on, he averaged just 51.1 yards per game.  So, right now, Beckham is essentially only half as productive as he once was.

I also think him not playing in 2022, even though he was rehabbing and getting healthy, doesn’t help his case.  He’s now a year older and has not seen game action in well over a year.  This will not be a good deal for the Ravens.

Andre Dillard, T, Tennessee Titans

Andre Dillard signed a three-year deal with the Titans.  Among all 2023 free agents, I also think Dillard was someone else who got massively overpaid.  The AAV on his contract comes in as the 18th most among all left tackles.  The problem here is that Dillard is far from the 18th best left tackle in the NFL.

He was a first-round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles and started just nine games for them in four seasons with the team.  The Titans are clearly paying for the potential here, but he’s proven to be nothing more than a backup at this point.
