We are officially done with the preseason, and the next NFL game will be the kickoff game between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. It has been a long and eventful offseason with all of the different moves each team has made. Whether it was a free agent pickup, trade or draft pick, the league is a different landscape.Â
That said, the more things change, the more they stay the same. A ton of key players are still in their homes from the 2025 season. What may differ is that with another year of experience for some players comes another step closer to franchise immortality, for a little while, at least.Â
It is officially time to check the record books and see which of them are on high alert for the upcoming 2026 season. Whether it is a rookie record, seasonal record or career record, all of them are up for consideration. Let’s get to predicting which records will be broken this year.
Predicting an NFL record to be broken for each team
Buffalo Bills - career passing touchdowns
There are actually a couple of records to look out for in regard to the Buffalo Bills. Both could definitely be broken, but the one that's being left off is the career receiving yards by a tight end. Dawson Knox needs 227 yards to break it, and he has reached that mark in every year of his career except for 2023.
However, the record we are going with is career passing touchdowns. Quarterback Josh Allen is 18 of them away from setting the franchise record in that category. Considering the veteran signal-caller has done that in every year but his rookie campaign, he seems like a safer option to predict than Knox.
Miami Dolphins - career receiving touchdowns by a running back
A bit of a specific choice here; however, it feels like the best feasible option for any record to be broken in Miami. Running back De’Von Achane needs three receiving touchdowns to break the Dolphins franchise record. Considering the fourth-year running back has met that mark in each of his first three seasons as a professional, it feels like the best option for there to be a new record in Miami.
New England Patriots - rookie receptions by a tight end
How does one predict a record to be broken when players like Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Corey Dillon and Randy Moss are sitting atop the franchise leaderboard? You look at the rookie class to break a record. The New England Patriots have one feasible option in that regard.Â
Eli Raridon is going to be a backup tight end this year, but that role produced 45 receptions in 2024. Granted, it would require Raridon to catch on to the NFL quickly, but it has been seen before. He will need to record 46 receptions in order to set a new rookie franchise record.
New York Jets - rookie receptions by a tight end
Unlike the New England Patriots, there are a couple of routes one could take with the New York Jets; however, all roads lead back to rookie receptions by a tight end. Kenyon Sadiq was taken in the first round for a reason, as the team clearly sees a lot of potential in the first-year player. The mark that Sadiq would have to beat is 48 catches, which is difficult, but not impossible.
