Green Bay Packers
Now, as a Bears fan, it’s been pleasing to see this Green Bay Packers offense struggle to start the year. But I don’t want to get my hopes up too much because I think this Packers offense will end up being fine. There are some concerning elements to not only their recent performances, but in other ways as well.
This Green Bay offense has struggled mightily to start the year, ranking 30th in EPA per play. Jordan Love is off to a slow start as well, ranking 27th in EPA per dropback and 32nd in completion rate. I can’t help but smile when writing those dreadful numbers.
It’s not all on Love, however, as this offensive line has allowed him to be pressured on 42.3% of his dropbacks, the 5th most among qualified passers. And now, with right tackle Zach Bako-Bewele out for the season and guard Aaron Banks ruled out for Thursday night’s game, this depleted offensive line will face an Atlanta Falcons pass rush that has been surprisingly effective, ranking 7th in pressure rate through two games.
I’m genuinely concerned for Love’s safety at this point.
To make matters worse, Jayden Reed is also out indefinitely, leaving Green Bay without one of its most important weapons in the passing game.
The run game has been even worse. Without Josh Jacobs, who remains on the commissioner’s exempt list and has no timeline to return, Green Bay has really struggled on the ground. They rank 27th in rushing yards per play, 31st in rushing success rate, and 32nd, dead last, in EPA per rush.
I try to be an optimistic guy, though, even though I’d love to make this entire section just spewing the worst stats I can find on the Packers offense. I’m gonna have some journalistic integrity and take my bias out of it because I think it’s possible the first two games are not representative of what we’ll see from this offense this year.
In Week 1, they faced Brian Flores, who seems to give every offense a hard time, followed by a rainy Week 2 game against the Jets. I think we’ll learn a lot about this offense on Thursday. Can this Packers offense bounce back at home on Thursday Night Football?
