EDGE Josh Sweat to the Green Bay Packers
There is an obvious connection with the Green Bay Packers and Josh Sweat, and that connection would be defensive coordinator, Jonathan Gannon. The Packers are now 4-2 on the season and seem to be turning things around despite the mounting injuries.
The Packers being buyers at the deadline would make a great deal of sense, as they could already use another pass-rush threat, but the defensive injuries also make this more of a need. Sweat and Gannon overlapped in Philadelphia and Arizona from 2021-2025.
During those seasons, Sweat amassed 45 sacks, 51 tackles for loss, and 91 quarterback hits Sweat enjoyed the best years of his football career playing in Gannon's defenses. It would also make sense for the Packers to make this type of move due to how formidable the rest of the NFC North appears to be.
Adding Sweat for what might turn out to be a day three NFL Draft pick and reuniting him with Gannon makes all the sense in the world.
DT Daron Payne to the Jacksonville Jaguars
The Washington Commanders are a bad football team, and veteran defensive tackle Daron Payne is in the final year of his deal. The Jaguars do have a slick defense and may honestly have more of a need for a cornerback, but why not add another lineman to the mix?
Payne is stout against the run and does still have some pass-rushing upside. The Jaguars don't have the most daunting defensive line on paper, and while the backend of the defense is important, games in the NFL are almost always won and lost in the trenches.
General Manager James Gladstone could end up making some type of move like this - where he sends Thomas to a fresh start but also pounces on an opportunity to add to the defense, for example.
