Buffalo Bills (vs. Los Angeles Chargers)
Before the season began, I bet most of us were circling this matchup as one of the better showdowns early in the season. Both Buffalo and Los Angeles have made the playoffs in the AFC the past two seasons, and the Bills have been in the postseason each year since 2019.
But through two weeks, both teams have some issues. While Buffalo is 2-0, the defense has been among the worst in the sport. On the other hand, the Chargers have been horrific through two weeks, as they have dropped two home games to Arizona and Las Vegas.
The Chargers are poorly coached and also just don't have nearly enough roster talent to hang with the big-dogs in the AFC. With the team also having a new offensive and defensive coordinator this year, it's clear that the regression is coming.
In fact, it's not a stretch to say that the Chargers are a bottom-5 team in the sport right now. Buffalo's defense can absolutely get on the right track in this game. It's at home, and with the Chargers offensive line again being an issue, the pass rush could feast.
On the flip side, the Chargers defense just does not have high-end, foundational talent much of anywhere, and losing Jesse Minter has proven to be a major issue. I am not sure there is a chance that the Chargers win this game.
Detroit Lions (vs. New York Jets)
The Detroit Lions might wish they still had Aaron Glenn as their defensive coordinator with how bad that unit has been since he left, and it's not like Glenn was an exceptional coordinator to begin with. The Lions defense has simply been unsustainably bad the first two weeks, but this game is at home where the Lions typically win.
Their offense can counteract the bad defense to an extent, and it's not like the Jets are a juggernaut. New York should have no issue getting into the end zone a few times, but I am not sure they have the talent on defense to contain the Lions offense. Detroit should win this one.
Kansas City Chiefs (@ Miami Dolphins)
The Miami Dolphins might not win more than a game or two this year. Fully embracing the rebuild, the Dolphins host the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. Miami just doesn't have much notable talent anywhere, and while the Chiefs are also missing the necessary talent they once had, this game should not be close.
Miami is fully in the 'ground zero' phase of this rebuild. With a new front office, coaching staff, and having parted with a ton of former key talent, the Dolphins are likely set to embark on a years-long adventure to try an rebuild this franchise.
I would say this team could maybe begin competing for a playoff spot as early as 2028, so it's going to be a while. Kansas City should blowout Miami.
