After what we all witnessed in the 2025 season for the Buffalo Bills, one of the non-negotiable areas GM Brandon Beane had to upgrade the roster was at the wide receiver position.
Beane recognized that early on in the offseason, making a big trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire veteran DJ Moore, but that was only the beginning. Even after a rough start to his NFL career, the Bills stuck by Keon Coleman, who is getting another shot in 2026. They also used a 4th-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft on UConn prospect Skyler Bell, who didn't get an opportunity to play until the last week of the NFL preseason.
And just at the buzzer of the preseason, it looks like the Bills might have a bit of a secret weapon on their hands.
Buffalo Bills might have unearthed a gem in rookie WR Skyler Bell

Here's what our friends over at BuffaLowDown had to say about Bell's preseason debut, and what it could mean for the WR rotation in Buffalo this upcoming season:
"Since Skyler Bell has been injured and unavailable to play in the Bills' first two preseason games, Brady wanted to use preseason game three as a chance for Bell to prepare for the regular season after coming off his injury.
The rookie made an immediate impression as he was the Bills' leading receiver with 49 yards on seven catches, and he ran the ball on a jet sweep, taking it to the house for a 28-yard touchdown run.
Bell continued to play the whole game, becoming a dynamic target for Buechele. He showed that his injury was not a factor and that he would be a valuable asset to the Bills' receiving corps."

The addition of DJ Moore is already going to be substantial for the Buffalo offense. Josh Allen has been missing a veteran receiver with that high of a floor since the departure of Stefon Diggs. With that in mind, the Bills have also struggled to develop some of their other players internally.
They've had to supplement by trying to add veterans like Mecole Hardman, Josh Palmer, Elijah Moore, and Brandin Cooks to the roster. No dice there, either.
Khalil Shakir has developed into a really nice player for them, but he's been the exception instead of the norm. The Bills need a player like Skyler Bell to turn the tide.
And if they can get a breakthrough from Keon Coleman this year?
Maybe everyone's been selling Joe Brady short, if that's the case.
Brady has done a great job throughout the course of his coaching career at incorporating a variety of receivers in the passing game, highlighting and amplifying their skill sets and making sure everybody eats. It's just one preseason game, so perhaps a rookie like Bell isn't going to immediately be a factor in the rotation, but he gave Brady and the rest of the Bills' coaching staff something to think about when it comes to needing help over the long haul of an 18-week season.
There will come a time when the Bills need Bell to step up this year, and what he showed the team in the preseason finale against the Steelers has to have given them substantial confidence that he can go out and make big plays for Josh Allen whenever that time comes.
