The "NIR" stands for, "Non-Injury Related," so we know that part of the reason why Porter isn't playing in this game has nothing to do with an injury at all. The interesting contrast to this whole situation is the status of Jalen Ramsey, who is listed as "QUESTIONABLE" for the game with a wrist injury.
Yet Ramsey isn't dealing with "just" a wrist injury -- he's trying to play through a broken wrist.
You can't make assumptions when it comes to injuries, but if you've been following the breadcrumbs and reading the tea leaves throughout this whole saga, there is clearly more than meets the eye here with Porter missing Thursday's game.
Trade speculation has continued to ramp up in the days leading up to this game, and it feels like it's now just a matter of time before a deal happens. Joey Porter Jr. may very well be the most likely "star" player getting traded during the 2026 NFL season.
