5. Kyler Murray

Early on in Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray sustained a concussion after he was hit in the head after sliding down on a run. Murray was taken out of the game and into the locker room, where he was promptly ruled out for the remainder of it, allowing backup Carson Wentz to rally the Vikings to a victory in the first game of the season. With Murray heading into concussion protocol, there is no telling when he could return to game action; as such, Wentz will become the starting quarterback for the time being, with J.J. McCarthy set to assume backup duties.

4. Sam Darnold

Just five plays into the season kickoff game for the Seattle Seahawks, the defending champions of the league lost their quarterback, Sam Darnold, to a hip injury, and he was taken off-site to conduct tests. There is some good news for the Seahawks, however; the tests came back clean, meaning the quarterback is not dealing with a fracture or tear. The injury has been described as muscle soreness.

While there is not a major injury to Darnold, Seattle is expected to be without its starting quarterback for at least a game. Overall, it could have been way worse for Darnold and the Seahawks. It will be Drew Lock taking over the offense in the absence of Darnold, and that unit did not seem to miss a beat with the shift in quarterbacks, which could give the starting signal-caller a bit more recovery time, with the next two games for Seattle being the Arizona Cardinals and Washington Commanders, a pair of low-expectation teams this year.

3. De’Zhaun Stribling

The San Francisco picked up a big loss en route to its blowout win over the Los Angeles Rams for a historic first game in Melbourne, Australia. Rookie wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling was diagnosed with a sprained ankle following the team’s return to the United States. The promising-looking rookie will have to wait a while longer before recording his first statistics in the NFL, as he is expected to miss a month or so of action, making the wide receiver a candidate to be placed on the injured reserve heading into Week 2.
