It's still early in the 2026 NFL Season, as we're just now hitting Week 4, but that does not mean there haven't been some wicked head coaching jobs thus far. That also isn't to say these teams are going to remain playing good football.
We did just see a team in the Indianapolis Colts begin the 2025 season 7-1 before finishing 8-9, so there is a lot that can change from the first half of the season into the second half. Anyway, as of now, it's clear which head coaches have done the best jobs with their teams.
We've ranked those jobs here, and the primary basis for the ranking is simply how much those teams have exceeded expectations, so let's dive into it.

5. John Harbaugh, New York Giants (2-1)
The New York Giants might not be above .500 for long, but this team being 2-1 is still impressive. They earned a very well-deserved Week 1 win over the Dallas Cowboys, got blown out in Week 2, lost their starting quarterback for at least the regular season, and proceeded to respond with a gritty win in Week 3.
The Giants won't make the playoffs this year, but this team should continue to play with that edge that Harbaugh established for years as head coach of the Baltimore Ravens.
4. Joe Brady, Buffalo Bills (3-0)
Joe Brady and the Buffalo Bills might be unsurprisingly 3-0 to begin the season, but the offense just feels different. While the defense hasn't necessarily played well, we have already seen QB Josh Allen play out of his mind, and the Bills have already beaten some quality opponents.
While Brady did inherit a team that was well established as a juggernaut and had already been with the franchise, the Bills are obviously wanting to embrace more of an offensive approach to their identity.
That was felt immediately, and Brady's Bills are one of just three undefeated teams in football right now.
