2. Chicago Bears
I don’t know that there is a single team in the NFC that is at a bigger advantage because of their head coach than the Chicago Bears with Ben Johnson.
And yes, I realize how hot of a take that seems to be at this juncture, and with coaches like Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and others in the conference. Johnson is just that good, and his offense has consistently proven to be unstoppable in recent years.
One thing the Bears have going for them that will serve them so well all year long is their running game. This is a team that ranks 1st in the league in rushing attempts and rushing yards, and they rank 4th in yards per attempt and rushing touchdowns. Even considering they have had to run more with Caleb Williams out, it’s impressive to see just how dynamic and well-rounded they’ve been while utilizing 3 different QBs.
1. San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers currently look like the most well-oiled machine in the entire NFL, not just the NFC.
Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy are in lockstep. The offensive operation has never looked more efficient. And what’s really scary is that the 49ers are nowhere near full strength in the health department.
The return of a healthy Fred Warner and Dre Greenlaw has made such a difference for a defense that struggles to get to the quarterback. They have injuries all over the defensive front, but right now, you wouldn’t even realize it.
The 49ers look ready to contend for a Super Bowl this season, and Brock Purdy has to be in the driver’s seat for league MVP through the first month of the season.
