2. Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills
There are definitely valid concerns with the Buffalo Bills this year. Despite being 5-1, the Bills have the 28th-ranked scoring defense, but they also rank 1st in points scored per game. The Bills also have the 5th-most penalties in the league.
Outside of the offense, the rest of this team is kind of poorly run, but this also means Josh Allen's MVP candidacy is that much more real. If the defense can't get better, we're going to see a reality where Allen simply has to carry the load more than he has during his career.
It's both a less-than-ideal scenario for the entire team, but an ideal scenario for Allen and his quest to win another MVP and a Super Bowl title.
He's No. 2 in our power rankings and is clearly still at the peak of his powers.
I'd also add that Allen hasn't done anything up to this point that would make him undeserving of the MVP this year.
1. Brock Purdy, QB, San Francisco 49ers
Brock Purdy tops our list in our MVP power rankings. On the best team in football, Purdy has been outstanding this year. He has 14 touchdown passes against just two interceptions and has thrown multiple touchdown passes in five of six games.
He's compelted nearly 70 percent of his passes and is simply playing at a higher level than most other players in the league right now. While the 49ers also have a suffocating, aggressive defense, part of the MVP voting, whether we like it or not, does seem to include overall team success.
Until proven otherwise, Purdy would surely be the MVP of the league if the season ended today, and he tops our power rankings as Week 7 approaches, but there is also more than half the season left for something wild to happen.
How did we do in our latest rankings?
