We are definitely approaching a period of the season where there could be some in-season firings. We recently saw the Indianapolis Colts part with General Manager Chris Ballard, and while in-season GM moves aren't as likely as in-season head coaching moves, Ballard's departure was warranted.
If you look across the NFL landscape as Week 8 hits, it becomes clear which head coaches are on the hot seat and could actually be fired in the coming weeks. With only 17 games in a season, there really isn't enough time to wait around, which does increase the pressure for everyone in the building.
Let's dive into our latest head coach hot seat power rankings as Week 8 approaches, and it should not be a surprise who is at the top.
Jim Harbaugh's seat is boiling hot in latest NFL hot seat power rankings
6. Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-5)
Getting to 2-5 probably does not help Todd Bowles a ton, and I don't see how he isn't still on the hot seat, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been a losing team for quite some time now, and even in the NFC South, you struggle to find much optimism with this team. Bowles has never really been much of a head coach in this league, and that's OK!
He's clearly a top-tier defensive mind and could still probably latch on with a new team as a coordinator in 2027 and beyond if he wanted do. The Buccaneers are 4-12 over their last 16 regular season games since the middle of the 2025 season.
Bowles and the Bucs don't scare you much of anywhere and are still trending in the wrong direction. He's No. 6 in our power rankings.
5. Shane Steichen, Indianapolis Colts (2-5)
The Indianapolis Colts have already gotten active with trades, and there could be more coming. I am not sure Shane Steichen is necessarily a bad head coach, but he could be someone who loses in job in the middle of all of this chaos. The Colts were 7-1 at one point in 2025 but have faltered ever since.
Steichen is clearly a smart offensive mind and is probably someone who would have multiple coordinator offers waiting for him in 2027. Given the direction the Colts are likely headed, Steichen may be one of the many casualties that this team makes in the coming weeks.
