As we approach the halfway point of the 2026 NFL season, we have reached no fewer than 17 broken records and historic moments across the league. Whether that is people moving up the top-10 list in a particular statistical category or career records for a franchise, we have seen countless moments. In Week 8, we saw a new kind of record for the season.

That would be the first rookie to write his name into the lore of his franchise. While that record was not broken yet, it was a historic moment for the Jacksonville Jaguars as Nate Boerkircher had one catch for 31 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. That score was his second of the season, tying the record, also held by Pete Mitchell and Zach Miller, for a rookie tight end in the history of the Jaguars organization.

Elsewhere, Von Miller recorded his first sack as a Dallas Cowboy, moving him to 139.5 on his career, and past both DeMarcus Ware and Terrell Suggs on the all-time NFL sacks list. This was a weird and prolonged congratulations ceremony for Week 9, now wasn’t it? Let us dive right into power rankings of what is at stake this week.

The historic moments and records that could be broken in Week 9

9. Mike Evans moves up the top-10 receiving touchdowns list

There is a question as to whether Mike Evans plays or not as the San Francisco 49ers come out of its bye week on Sunday. As such, Evans is unable to be any higher than this on the power rankings this week. The veteran pass catcher is close to moving up the top-10 receiving touchdowns list.

As a matter of fact, Evans needs just one touchdown grab to move past Tony Gonzalez on the top-10 leaderboard and would become ninth on it. However, Evans is dealing with the Achilles injury that kept him out of the previous game against the Atlanta Falcons. Given the question of his availability and us having records to watch on Thursday Night Football, there is no telling whether or not Evans will be available to move up the chart in regard to receiving touchdowns in a career.

8. Atlanta Falcons receiving touchdowns by a running back record

A pastime that has joined the power rankings over the last few weeks is Bijan Robinson and his quest to break the Atlanta Falcons’ receiving touchdowns record by a running back. Robinson was shut out of the passing attack against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. Granted, a torrential downpour might have that effect on a passing game (just look at the other side and how Tampa Bay did not complete a single pass, and attempted just three all game).

However, Week 9 is a new game and a new situation. This week, Robinson will attempt to break the all-time Falcons touchdown receptions record against the Cincinnati Bengals in Madrid, Spain. Robinson will need two such scores in order to accomplish that feat and pass both Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman, who are sitting at 11 touchdown catches in their respective Falcons careers.
