2. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos got absolutely blown out in Week 1 by the Kansas City Chiefs. It looked like this team was going to be in for a major regression year after reaching the AFC Championship Game last season.
Nobody thought the Broncos’ model for success was sustainable, and it seemed like they were proven right. Even after a 2-2 start that included wins over the Jaguars and Rams, the Broncos’ loss in Week 4 against the 49ers seemed to indicate that this team was just too incompetent offensively to make it through their schedule.
But that’s exactly what they did.
The Broncos have now won 4 straight games after beating Kansas City in Week 8. They are 6-2 heading into a road matchup against the Panthers in Week 9, and the offense has started to take strides in the right direction.
It just feels like this team can play whatever type of game they need to in order to win. “It’s easy to beat the Broncos until you have to actually play them,” is a phrase going around on social media, and it’s so true.
1. Buffalo Bills
Part of me feels like the Bills don’t deserve to be in this spot because their defense is just not good. But then again, you are what your record says you are, and the Bills are the only 1-loss team in the AFC right now.
And they have the best player in the world on their team in Josh Allen.
Those two facts count for something.
Buffalo has a lot at stake in Week 9 when they travel to Minneapolis to take on the Vikings, who are one of the most aggressive and dominant defenses in the league. Josh Allen historically feasts when teams try to blitz him, so that’s going to be a matchup for the ages.
At this point, you can’t count the Bills out of any game with Allen under center. They can run the ball and they have an MVP at quarterback. They just need the defense to find a way to be close to average, and they’ll be able to outscore anybody.
