Vincent Jackson Trade Rumors: Buccaneers want second-rounder

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are willing to trade some big names at the deadline, as Doug Martin (the most likely player to be dealt), Vincent Jackson (the first name to be mentioned in the trade rumor mill), and struggling safety Dashon Goldson are all available and drawing interest. Jackson is the jewel of those three names, as he is one of the best wide receivers in the game and can cause plenty of headaches for defenses with his massive size and impressive long speed. V-Jax has been used in the slot before to really draw mis-matches in coverage, and he’s more versatile than given credit for. A monster in the red zone, Jackson has some of the best ball skills in the NFL, and he would be a huge catch for teams in need of a true No. 1 receiver.

It’s no surprise to hear that many teams have contacted the Buccaneers with interest in Jackson, and this includes some marquee teams in the New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and Philadelphia Eagles. The Kansas City Chiefs are another playoff contender with interest, and they could really use a true No. 1 receiver on their side.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported earlier today that while the Buccaneers are willing to trade Jackson, they aren’t exactly shopping him, so they would deal him at the “right price”. That price is a hefty one, as Jason Licht and Lovie Smith would like to receive a second-round pick. Jackson isn’t cheap and isn’t young, but he should still be a top receiver by the time his contract runs out. A second-round pick is enough to make some teams balk at the price, but teams that truly need a top receiver could be willing to give that pick up. I wonder if the Buccaneers are willing to accept a third-round pick or some other combination of picks, but it’s clear that they are only willing to trade him in order to help bolster their future.
