Coming off of a tough loss to the Seattle Seahawks at home, the 7-2 New England Patriots will travel across the country to take on the 1-8 San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium. This game may seem like an obvious mismatch, but the Patriots must make sure to come in and take care of business.
As per usual, Tom Brady has the Patriots offense rolling on all cylinders this season. Even with Brady missing the first four games of the year, the Patriots are sixth in the NFL in points, scoring 26.8 points per game.
The Patriots are going to be without star tight end Rob Gronkowski in this game, but they should still have more than enough fire power to score at will against the 49ers. Martellus Bennett should take on a much larger role in the offense with Gronkowski not able to play. Also, slot receiver Julian Edelman should have a massive impact without Gronkowski and Chris Hogan in the lineup.

While the injuries are less than ideal, the 49ers defense is particularly exploitable. They have allowed a league-high 31.4 points per game this season, continually being gashed through the air and on the ground. Teams have been able to throw on the 49ers when they want, but they have been particularly awful against the run. San Francisco has allowed a staggering 180.4 rushing yards per game this season, far and away the most in the entire NFL.
Brady, Bennett, Edelman and company should be able to make plays in the passing game, while LeGarrette Blount should continue his success on the ground.
While the Patriots offense will likely score many points, their defense must step up in order to walk away victorious. A lack of pass rush and a less than stellar Pats secondary have given the Patriots defense issues in recent week.
Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers offense are far from a perfect unit, but Kaepernick and running back Carlos Hyde can certainly make plays when necessary. If the Patriots defense does not show up in this one, the 49ers will have an opportunity to match them score for score.
