Dallas Cowboys: Damontre Moore Gives Defensive Line Depth
Adding Damontre Moore to their defensive line, the Dallas Cowboys are showing they are looking to add players with potential.
The Dallas Cowboys have made some moves in 2017 NFL free agency to improve the depth and overall look on the defensive side of the ball. Last Friday, one of those players added was Damontre Moore, recently a member of the Seattle Seahawks, though he’s played for a total of four franchises before joining the Cowboys.
Moore has had a couple off-the-field issues causing him to no longer to be a part of his former franchises. But as always, the Cowboys are there to be a third chance for a player who still might be a diamond in the rough since he is a former third-round draft choice in 2013.
The signing of Moore afford Dallas a chance at some reward with not too much risk, especially if he can commit. If Moore is able to play hard and stay out of trouble, that would be the best case scenario for the reigning NFC East champions. If he doesn’t play well enough, there isn’t much risk involved.

It’s no secret that the Cowboys have taken risks with their defensive line in the past on players with more on the line, including former second-round selection Randy Gregory. Gregory has been suspended more during his NFL career than he’s been on the field for the Cowboys, but the Cowboys are one of the more forgiving franchises in the NFL in second and even third chances.
Last season, Moore played in just four games with the Seattle Seahawks. In those four games, he totaled seven tackles and a half-sack. Those number aren’t what draw the interest of the Cowboys to make this signing, though. Instead, Dallas is hoping to get the production of Moore from 2014-15, where he totaled 59 tackles and 9.5 sacks in 29 regular season games with the New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.
The Cowboys made other additions to their defense in the first wave of free agency. And with the Cowboys losing Terrell McClain and Jack Crawford, any addition to the defensive line is welcome. Dallas also added Stephen Paea to the defensive line via free agency as well. With those two additions thus far to the defensive line through free agency, the Cowboys are working on their depth, but do they still need to add more talent?

This signing could yield some high rewards for the Cowboys, because if Moore can get back on track and be the player he was during his best seasons and keep his off-the-field issues in check, the Cowboys will have made a good football move.
