Chris Conley, University of Georgia

Chris Conley came into the combine as a virtual unknown and left less virtually unknown. He mainly made waves at the combine for his outstanding 4.35 40-yard dash time which was tied for third best among receivers and fourth among the other combine participants while Conley’s unbelievable 45-inch vertical leap was tops among wide outs and the field.

His shuttle and cone times were not exactly what Conley would have liked, but his 40-yard speed and vertical definitely showed NFL teams a little taste of what Conley can do.

According to CBSSports.com’s Rob Rang, “Conley has good build-up speed, as well as the body control and soft hands to make tough receptions.”

As evidenced by his tape, Conley does have some undeveloped potential. His stats tell a somewhat under-played story, however. In his Georgia career, Conley has caught 117 passes for 1,938 yards and 20 touchdowns with half of those touchdowns coming in five multi-touchdown games.

An important note to make about Conley is the fact that his college career has been a solid progression rather than a regression as we have seen some other players incur. It was nice to see Conley’s touchdown production double from his junior season to his senior season. Not to mention, CC’s 18.25 yards per reception average shows that whenever Conley gets the ball, a big play is bound to happen.

Speed and youth will always be a valued commodity in the NFL and Conley definitely has both of those qualities. Whether or not the Chargers see value in Conley will be the real question. I could truly see him playing anywhere on the field, but in the slot is where I think his talents could be best utilized.
