Will the Ravens target a receiver?

Wide receiver is another potential position of need for the Baltimore Ravens. In 2014, Steve Smith Sr. and Torrey Smith combined for 1,832 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Torrey Smith is now a free agent, and Steve Smith Sr. will be 36-years-old by the time the season starts. The Ravens will need to look into adding pieces to the position to give Joe Flacco the best opportunity to succeed.

The hopes of re-signing Torrey Smith took a blow when Green Bay’s Randall Cobb was taken off the market. Smith, along with Jeremy Maclin, is at the top of the receiver class in free agency. He will likely draw a lot of attention.

The Ravens would most likely need to address this area in the draft. A move they could make would be to draft a receiver in the mid-rounds but pickup a running back like Ameer Abdullah or Duke Johnson earlier. The reason for this is that both Abdullah and Johnson are good pass-catchers and can immediately contribute as a receiver.

Doing so would give the Ravens two receiving options from the draft, while also filling a potential need at running back.

The Ravens haven’t made life easy for themselves with the salary cap. There are a number of burning questions that need to be answered between now and the draft which starts on April 30. They will need to make some cap-savings somewhere and make the right personnel moves to fill needs.

It’s going to be an interesting offseason in Baltimore, that’s for sure.
