Best: Getting Released And Hopefully finding a New Team

At 33 years old and with 11 years of NFL football under his belt, it would not be surprising if Matt Schaub decided to hang it up. If he does retire then he will do so as one of the better QBs in recent memory who was always good but not great. Solid and dependable, but never a game changer. Schaub still holds 33 passing records for the Houston Texans franchise and is the all-time leading passer in terms of yards, touchdowns, completions, attempts, and passer rating.

Texans fans may be cursing his name for torpedoing the 2013 season but in time they will realize how good he was in Houston. He had three seasons with over 4,000 yards passing and five seasons with a passer rating over 90. In Oakland he was the consummate professional. He never complained publicly about losing his starting job and by all accounts was the mentor that the Raiders wanted for their young quarterback.

His time as a starter in the NFL may be over and done with but he still has value as a backup somewhere in the league. If he wants to keep playing then there is definitely a team out there that could use him, including the Oakland Raiders. He was more of a cap casualty than anything as the Raiders could not justify spending $8 million on a backup quarterback.

Getting cut by the Raiders gives Schaub the freedom to sign for a team where he can either compete for the starting position or settle for being a backup. There is a lack of talent at the QB position in the NFL and although his confidence may need some work, Matt Schaub still has the talent to get it done.
