The Carolina Panthers have a major need to fill via the 2015 NFL Draft with their offensive line. It’s no secret that quarterback Cam Newton makes or breaks this team towards success or failure. It’s imperative that he gets the proper pass protection to keep the Panthers competitive and a force to reckon with in the NFC South. With their No. 25 overall pick, the Panthers should be able to take a top offensive lineman to help bolster their offensive line. Someone like offensive tackle Jake Fisher will do the job and much more.
In my most recent mock draft, I actually have the Panthers taking Fisher thanks to everything that he brings to the table. At 6’6″ and 306 pounds, Fisher would be an immediate contributor to help ensure that Newton is able to stay upright and continue being explosive.

Considering that Newton was sacked 42 times last season, speaks to the inconsistency of the Panthers’ offensive line and how Fisher could rectify it. He excels in pass protection and would be able to help make Newton’s famous draw plays work even more effectively with his skill-set.
Even though the Panthers did make an addition via the 2015 NFL Free Agency period by acquiring Michael Oher, he’s not their true long-term solution at offensive tackle. He’s inconsistent and even though he has veteran experience, he’s nowhere near the play he once use to be.
Fisher is extremely strong and athletic thanks to all the positions he has held while playing football. Aside from being an offensive lineman, he’s played as a defensive end and even tight end throughout his football career. What I admire the most about him is his versatility.
Projected to be able to play either offensive tackle or offensive guard, should the Panthers go in this direction, Fisher would be an instant starter at left tackle. He would also compliment the Panthers’ rushing attack since they need help with zone blocking schemes to really open things up offensively. With Oher in the mix, he has a solid mentor to mold him towards greatness.

Having an offensive anchor on your team with the high ceiling of Fisher is very important in putting your team in a position to succeed for years to come.
I’ve always believed that football games are won in the battle of the trenches and having a top-notch offensive line always yields results. Look at what the Dallas Cowboys have done so far by drafting top offensive linemen and having the incredible results they’ve been producing.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the Panthers added another offensive lineman later on in the draft just to add quality depth. To build a team for perennial success means to constantly have successful drafts that bolster a team and pushes the envelope the following season. Even though it’s not a flashy pick, Fisher to the Panthers make a ton of football sense.
Overall, the Panthers must take Fisher if he’s available when they’re on the clock since he would bring so much to a team that is realistically just a few pieces away from really making some noise come next season.
Once he is in place, one can only imagine the damage that Newton and company will do to opponents once he has more time to make incredible video highlights on the field.
