Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jameis Winston is a perfect fit

Jameis Winston has the talent, mindset, and swagger to make the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a playoff team for a long time.

The 2015 NFL Draft is officially underway. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who finished the 2014 NFL season with the worst record in the league, had the first pick in the draft. After months of mulling their options and doing their due diligence on each top prospect, the Buccaneers made their decision to select maligned, yet extremely talented Jameis Winston. Although Winston turned the ball over a bunch this past season and he comes into the league with baggage, he truly is a perfect fit in Dirk Koetter’s offensive scheme.

Many believe that Leonard Williams is the best player in this draft. While many experts seem to agree on that, I’m in the majority that Winston is the best player in this draft class. Here are some of my notes from when I scouted Winston.

"Where Winston will need to clean up is on and off the field. He needs to show that he’s serious about football. He also needs to improve his decision-making a bit more as well. Despite that, Winston doesn’t flinch when the pocket collapses. He stands tall in the pocket and he goes through his progressions with no fear of being brought down. He has excellent anticipation and he although he isn’t the most athletic guy, he shows enough ability to stay off the ground."

With the Buccaneers drafting Winston, they immediately get an upgrade at the quarterback position, as Mike Glennon and Josh McCown, the two quarterbacks who manned the position last year, showed they were incompetent to say the least.

Winston is a guy that shows the ability and potential to be a productive NFL quarterback for a long time. He plays the game with excellent instincts. He reads defenses extremely well and he has great feel for the pocket. He stands tall over the pocket with his size at 6-foot-4, 230 pounds. What I love about Winston the most is his anticipation ability. Winston is a stud in terms of leading receivers and placing the ball in a position where only his receivers can haul in.

In an offense with playmakers like Mike Evans, Vincent Jackson, Austin Seferian-Jenkings, and Doug Martin, the Buccaneers now have a quarterback capable of not only scoring points, but winning football games as well. I don’t expect the Buccaneers to make the playoffs, but I guarantee, with the addition of Winston, that they’ll be in the thick of things in the NFC South by the end of the 2015 season.
