There’s a lot to look at, but with the Lions this year; the hope was the Lions offense would be better.

Obviously you can’t determine how good an offense after a preseason game, but the Lions offense looked fluid in the first drive, Ameer Abdullah and Golden Tate were the vocal point of that offensive series.

Calvin Johnson didn’t play, but the Lions offense didn’t skip a beat.

The Lions took only five plays to go 72 yards to score.

What To Take Out Of The First Team?

Matt Stafford placement on the throws was unbelievable. I can’t remember a time where Stafford had that much touch, Lions WR Golden Tate “He placed the ball where I wanted, we’ve worked on that. If that throw was a little in front or behind, it wouldn’t have been a touchdown.” Said Tate.

The Lions offense on that first drive looked quite impressive.

The offensive line opened holes for rookie RB Ameer Abdullah, Abdullah was quite impressive in his short debut 7 carries – 67 yards.

Abdullah’s quick vision was key on his runs, and the hype surrounding the young rookie is quite impressive, and real.

Players Who Looked Good On Defense

Caraun Reid:

Reid looked good, Lions needed someone to step up and he looks to be the guy to step up. He made enough plays to show that he really is worthy of becoming a good depth player.

Teryl Austin spoke on Reid in OTA’s saying “He’s trained really hard, he’s in really good shape,” Austin said about Reid. “He looks good right now. Obviously, we’ll have to wait and see once we get to pads where we are, but I like what he’s done so far.”

Players that could make a push for a roster spot:

Greg Salas:

Salas made an impact he made plays, the most impressive play by Greg Salas was the way he played the ball in the air.

Zach Zenner:

Zenner looked impressive, the way he read holes. Zenner looks like he could make a legit push for a roster spot.

The Takeaway:

The Lions won a preseason game, and nothing is gained by a preseason win. However the way the Lions looked is quite impressive, Lions just looked like they were ahead of the game, however preseason you look at what the depth does, and how they do.

Caldwell said, “I thought the first team, played well on both sides”

The Lions held the Jets to 123 total yards that’s impressive.

All in all, Detroit showed a lot to be impressed about however this is just a glorified scrimmage, but from what we seen on Thursday night could bode well going into the regular season.
