Robert Griffin III: Leaves Game with Injury after Getting Pummeled

It hasn’t been the best preseason for the Washington Redskins as the team is still in the middle of controversy surrounding its name. Additionally, Robert Griffin III thinking he’s the best quarterback in the NFL caused a firestorm of comments as well and caused the team’s public relations department to reportedly ban him from speaking to the media. On Wednesday it got worse as RGIII was hit again and again due to the offensive line being nonexistent and after one hit left the game due to injury.

Griffin was getting smacked to the ground hard almost after every play and on one his shoulder hit the ground hard and he sustained a shoulder stinger after the fumble pile stacked up on each other. In addition, he left the game with concussion symptoms and is undergoing concussion protocol.

It’s unknown if he will return against the Detroit Lions, but the Redskins would be wise to sit him the rest of the night if he is cleared to go. At this point, RGIII is injury prone and it has hindered his success in the NCAA from carrying over into his Redskins career.

Griffin is anything but the best active NFL quarterback. If games like tonight continue to happen, he will be in a lot of pain and his NFL career could be over before him or the Redskins know it. For now, it’s clear the Redskins offensive line has to get fully healthy so embarrassing performances like tonight do not continue to happen and Griffin can be probably protected as well.

It will be interesting to see how serious Griffin’s shoulder stinger is and whether he has a concussion or not. Based on the many hits he took on Wednesday, any kind of concussion wouldn’t be surprising to anyone who saw the hits. Now all Redskins and their fan base can do and wait and see the extent of RGIII’s injuries and the prognosis. No matter the result, RGIII should sit safely on the bench and not play in a football game until the Redskins open up their 2015 season in September. The team can’t risk RGIII picking up a further injury and given his history it’s bound to happen again.
