Martavis Bryant’s breakout season for the Pittsburgh Steelers has reportedly been put on hold. According to a tweet from Adam Schefter of ESPN, the 23-year old faces a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s Substance Abuse Policy. Bryant is now appealing the suspension.

The 2014 fourth-round pick flashed some tantalizing talent in his rookie campaign, and has been generating loads of fantasy football buzz after showing up to camp with more muscle added to his 6’4″ frame. As a rookie, Bryant caught 26 passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns, good for an incredible yards-per-catch of 21.1.

With star running back Le’Veon Bell serving a suspension of his own for the first two weeks and centre Maurkice Pouncey out for the foreseeable future with an ankle injury, the Steelers offense has quickly thinned around Ben Roethlisberger. Antonio Brown took on a massive workload in 2014, but he may now be asked to do even more.

Markus Wheaton should also jump onto the fantasy football radar in the wake of this news, as Roethlisberger has gone out of his way throughout camp to praise the 24-year old who caught 54 passes last season. Wheaton has found the end zone just twice in his two years as a pro, but the targets should certainly present themselves through September and give him the opportunity to solidify himself closer to the top of the depth chart. Rookie Sammie Coates could also earn more looks from Roethlisberger out of the gates.
