It’s not only a new look secondary for the Seahawks, they have made some significant moves on the offensive side of the ball.
The Seahawks have added playmakers through the draft and in free agency. Most notable they traded for one of the league’s best tight ends in Jimmy Graham, added depth in the backfield with nine-year veteran running back Fred Jackson and drafted explosive wide receiver Tyler Lockett.
Jimmy Graham is arguably the best tight end in the league; he and New England Patriot Rob Gronkowski have helped to redefine the tight end position over the past few years.
His height, size and agility make him an uncoverable red-zone target and he has great speed to get open anywhere on the field. Graham and quarterback Russell Wilson have shown good chemistry in their short time together. Look for Graham to become Wilson’s new favourite target in 2015.
Rookie receiver Lockett has already wowed us with his talents in the preseason. He has great speed and looks to be the real deal. Along with Graham, Tyler looks set to drastically help improve the Seahawks passing offense.
Veteran back Fred Jackson re-joins former Buffalo Bills team-mate Marshawn Lynch. Jackson put up over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last season and showed that he can still play.
It doesn’t look like Jackson will have many carries behind Lynch but still has the ability to fill in when called upon. However Jackson could be utilised more in the pass game, he has over 2,500 career receiving yards and hauled in 501 yards on 66 catches for the Bills in 2014. You may see a lot more two back sets from the Seahawks.
Only time will tell if the new offense is an improvement on last season but it sure looks better on paper.
