Fantasy Football: Best Plays for NFL Week 2
By Dan Salem
With so many juicy matchups in NFL Week 2, who will be the top Fantasy Football stars of the day? These are your best plays, so lock them in and rack up those points. Dan Salem and Todd Salem debate in today’s NFL Sports Debate. Check out more of the brothers in Seesaw Sports Debate on BuzzChomp. Two brothers from New York yell, scream, and debate sports.
TODD:
Last week, we attempted to zero in on the likely top fantasy performers for that weekend’s games; it was a mixed bag. What did happen was all four of our selections were victorious, for whatever that’s worth. That isn’t quite the objective here, but it is a factor in having a good day as an individual.
For Week 2, here are my picks to be Sunday’s top performers:
Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White
This isn’t even going to be fair. All the signs point to a huge day out of the veteran wide out. Atlanta faces the New York Giants, a team that was primed to have the luckiest win of the week, until it blew the game and actually ended up losing. No matter; the team looked atrocious in most aspects, specifically the pass rush.

In Week 2, Matt Ryan will have all day to throw. The Giants do have at least one good defensive player in Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Putting him on Julio Jones and even shading some safety help could slow him down, but it will just open up the entire field for Roddy White.
St. Louis Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald (the Rams Defense)
It sure didn’t take long for Aaron Donald to become one of the best defensive lineman in football. He may already be better than teammates Robert Quinn and Chris Long despite their excellence.
Against the Seahawks in Week 1, the Rams defensive line won the game. Against the Washington Redskins in Week 2, it may simply swallow the opponent whole. The Rams’ Defense is going to put up big fantasy points against their weak opponent.
Washington had a nice showing for most of its game against Miami but still came up short. The team will be without DeSean Jackson for around a month, allowing defenses to focus on even fewer play-makers. The Skins only gave up one sack and averaged 4.4 yards per carry on the ground their first time out. Donald will make sure both of those numbers are altered in favor of St. Louis.

DAN:
The slate of week 2 games is really great, especially when talking Fantasy Football. I’m honing in on a few weak defenses for my top performers. There’s nothing like bad defense to pad fantasy stats and help you crush your opponents.

Here are my week 2 picks:
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers gave up four touchdowns to rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota in week one. Now they must deal with perennial Pro Bowler Drew Brees, on the road in New Orleans. The Saints might not be a top-tier offense any longer, especially after losing Jimmy Graham, but don’t give this matchup a second thought.
The Buccaneers defense is going to make a lot of quarterbacks look great this season, and Brees is already on that level. I expect huge things from him and the Saints’ offense in week two. Who dat? Oh, just another touchdown for New Orleans. No big deal.
Baltimore Ravens running back Justin Forsett
Oakland looked slow and unprepared to start the year, while Baltimore came out swinging. Entering the Raiders’ home turf is usually a tough road for teams, but the Ravens will not miss a step. Running back Justin Forsett is about to explode in week two. After putting up only 43 yards on 14 carries against the stingy Denver defense, he is going to eat up what Oakland has to offer.
The Raiders gave up over 120 yards rushing and two touchdowns to the Bengals in week one. By all accounts the Ravens are on par with Cincinnati, so its fair to expect a repeat rushing performance from Oakland’s next opponent.
