Option #2: San Francisco 49ers
Man, out of all the options on this list, this one has to be the most enticing. The 49ers obviously don’t have a franchise quarterback at the moment. After once leading the Niners to the Super Bowl, it doesn’t appear Colin Kaepernick has a future in the Bay Area, and Blaine Gabbert is Blaine Gabbert (I know he’s been playing okay, but c’mon. He’s not a franchise QB).
So wouldn’t it make sense for the 49ers to take a chance on Manning? Remember, Manning worked out for the 49ers during the offseason prior to the 2012 season, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter. To be honest, I thought he was going to sign with the 49ers, which in turn, would’ve sent Alex Smith — who was garnering interest from Miami — packing.
Think about it: If San Francisco could land Manning, there’s a real shot Patrick Willis, who has stated he is firm in his stance of retirement, could decide to play at least one more year.
If Manning were to end up with the 49ers, free agents would likely follow suit, and it’s possible Peyton could have a LeBron James-like effect.
